THE DUSTY GROUND CRUNCHED BENEATH SKYWHISPER'S PAWS. The territory here was unfamiliar. His pads stung slightly from what was once the rough GorgeClan territory. But all that did not matter now; he would have to get used to the gorge. He stopped at the entrance to GorgeClan camp and looked back at the small ginger she behind him. The sight of his apprentice wrenched his heart. He had silently hoped she would not tag along with him into quarantine. After Orchidpaw, he could not bear to lose another.

It's not too late to turn back. He almost said to her, but stopped himself. There was no use imposing his fears upon the young cat. He knew that when he was a young apprentice, he would have followed his mentor into any kind of danger. There was no excuse to it, especially as a medicine cat.

The Clans had merged as one, aside from sequestering the sick cats to GorgeClan territory. For a while they heard little about the quarantined cats. Skywhisper laid awake at nights wondering if anyone was even still alive in the quarantined area. It felt like they had just left and abandoned the sick. But after much discussion, it was decided that he and Lilypaw would journey to the quarantine and stay with the sick cats. There was a risk to it, losing two of their medicine cats. But Skywhisper had felt responsible for this Spore disease since the first patient, his own sister, had succumbed to it.

If we make it out of this, he thought to himself, Lilypaw definitely deserved her medicine cat name. But there was no time to visit Starpool now. StarClan themselves had been quiet, perhaps busy welcoming the multitude of cats that joined their ranks.

He took a deep breath and stepped into GorgeClan camp, motioning for Lilypaw to follow. To his relief, the scent of cats waft into his nostrils, along with the musty smell of the Spore. At least they were alive. He recognized Falconcry of GorgeClan and Minnowswarm of CreekClan.

"Let's find a spot to stock supplies and herbs," he said quietly to Lilypaw. There might not be a cure to this disease, but if anything, the presence of a medicine cat should soothe their anxious hearts.

minnowswarm

life was not what she had expected it to be, more so then before. isolated in the confinements of gorgeclan's former camp, the young she-cat had found she had little to no friends within the walls, and that the isolation was beginning to eat at her. she had barely even been aware of what had happened, being one of the last victims of the spores to arrive at the camp, she had been worried to see more dead then alive. however the victims of the spore seemed to have been fighting back more then she expected, even having one complete recovery.

she still felt the effects of her case of symptoms. the chest infection caused her to feel out of breath easily, the smell of musk and what she would describe as mushroom-smelling, caused her to feel like her lungs would collapse on her at any moment. while she was recovering - she hoped - she felt like some of her days would be numbered. whiskers twitching softly, the she-cat heard the faint sound of paws moving near the entrance of the camp - her brilliant blue eyes watching the more agile felines moving towards to greet or defend against whoever would emerge.

to her surprise - and delight - she noticed the pelt of skywhisper, the former medicine cat of moorclan. her heart almost sank when she noticed that lilypaw, his apprentice, was with her. a part of her wanted to gather all her strength to yowl at the tom for such a stupid mistake, the apprentice should be with spiderpaw, featherpaw or flickerfrost. but she stilled her tongue, realizing she did not know if spiderpaw would have been able to treat the able cats in their oneclan. sighing, she rose to move to greet the felines before her, staying a few cat tails back with worry addressed on her face.

"could they not have sent spiderpaw, or flickerfrost in her stance?" her meow was raspy, almost breathless as she spoke to skywhisper and lilypaw. she was so unaware of the outside world, unaware her former medicine cat was now spiderfrost instead of spiderpaw. "what news of-of our clans.." she asked as her words trailed off into a fit of coughs.

His mind lay vacant as he laid upon his nest. The dry moss crumbling like his warrior's spirit. He thought of Pearfrost and wondered what she was up to - if she was happier perhaps and how clan life was treating her. Despite Pear's attitude, Falconcry was quite fond of her and wished he had spent more time getting to know her better. Instead, the tom was held up in quarantine fighting off the sickness.

Falconcry rested his head on his paws, scrunching himself tightly against his weight. His lungs burned and he stifled a slight cough. He felt weak but not weaker than a couple of days ago. Slight improvements gave him hope for the coming times.

` lilypaw:
🌼 lilypaw had been training under skywhisper for about 5 moons now, which seemed to have been both a lifetime and blur. so much change in such a short time was overwhelming to a lot of the cats. there was now only one clan, with all the loss in ranks and in prey she knew it was the right decision, even if it was an uncomfortable one. clans didn't do this, live together the way they are forced to now. loyalties merged and they were united, territories shared and they fused together, they mourned losses together and they were bonded. this was new, it was awkward, it was trying, it was unconventional, but it was needed. it was beautiful, in its own way, but lilypaw knew the ugly side all too well. she had seen so much sickness in death in the short time she worked as a medicine cat apprentice she feared she would be hardened or desensitized, but each time she faced it felt like the first.

skywhisper was a fantastic mentor and she had been learning to much under his wing. he was patient, yet firm, and full of knowledge he was more than willing to share with her. she never felt pushed aside or belittled with him, she felt in her element caring for the sick and gathering herbs. she had taken well to this new life and she knew she was right where she needed to be.

she didn't look back when moorclan territory faded into the background when they had first left what she called home and she didn't look back now as they approached gorgeclan camp. she hadn't given this choice a second thought. in fact, it felt like the only choice, if she had stayed behind while skywhisper went, she would have regretted it every day. where he went, she followed, just try and stop her. and at her mentor's signal she slipped through the entrance to the former enemy's camp.

immediately she scanned the clearing for her sister, cloverpaw. she felt uneasy when she didn't spot her laying in the sun, watching the clouds. she sent a silent prayer to starclan that she was alright before getting down to business. she nodded in response to skywhisper's suggestion and added, "Do you think flickerfrost left anything behind in the medicine den?" she hoped there was a good stock to start them off. she wasn't familiar with gorgeclan territory, so restocking would prove to be more difficult than if had been in the past. almost as soon as they arrived they were approached by a creekclan she-cat she recognized as minnowswarm, obviously weak and trying hard to breathe. she wanted to be offended by her words but pushed herself to remember that this cat didn't know her. lilypaw could handle this, spiderfrost was about the same as she was and lilypaw was just as capable. she kept her face straight, biting her tongue and allowing skywhisper to have the first word. she didn't want to start off on the wrong paw with these cats.

[attr="class","tabris3"] "he who does not understand your silence, likely will not understand your words"

[attr="class","tabrisbody"]
SKYWHISPER's TAIL TWITCHED IN SURPRISE AT LILYPAW'S WORDS. As usual, her intelligence never ceased to surprise him and he chided himself for not thinking of such an obvious solution. Flickerfrost's den was likely the best place to start restocking their stores. GorgeClan territory would be difficult to navigate for the two Moorclanners and if Flickerfrost herself had left some herbs, it would be a miraculous start. It gave the reticent tom a proud defensive urge to respond to Minnowswarm's words.

"You are a genius," he mouthed a rare compliment to Lilypaw. "Lilypaw is as capable as any medicine cat. She could probably take my place." He ended with a light tease, knowing it might make Lilypaw a little embarrassed. Lilypaw had been the joy of his days since the Spore hit.

But he knew without a doubt that every cat here would find comfort in seeing their own medicine cat over the medicine cat of another Clan. The Clans had not always been this close, after all. In times of peril, it was probably better to be empathetic than take Minnowswarm's words personally. He decided instead to bring Minnowswarm some good news. "Spiderpaw is Spiderfrost now. In times like this, our apprentices learn so fast out of necessity." He tried to remember what other news he had in store for them since the quarantine started. "Plumdew has passed away from illness. Berrychirp has given birth to Beekit and Honeykit. Alpha, Epsilon, and Omega are now apprentices. Is there anyone in particular you miss?"

He glanced up at Falconcry and Minnowswarm, trying hard to remember their respective families since they were not from MoorClan. It was strange, really, that he had to be the newsbringer for every Clan. The boundaries between cats were breaking down. That was all he could remember for now, and if the cats wanted news of specific cats perhaps they would ask him.

As he spewed out some news, he pawed the dried remains of Falconcry's nest and suddenly noticed its lack of moisture.

"This can't be comfortable," he murmured. "Lilypaw, do mind searching around for fresher moss?"

He felt slightly guilty burdening her with an typical apprentice task, but it was as important as ever for his patients to be comfortable. Furthermore, it worried him that their moss did not seem recently changed. It seemed they were a little short on healthy paws overall to do basic chores like collect moss. Was there even anyone strong enough to hunt? Had GorgeClan left them with any supplies? But he saved those questions for later.

"Sit in silence and watch the world."
This whole thing was madness.

Not really, but sometimes it felt like a fever dream to Frostwhisper. A mysterious illness they labeled the Spore starts weakening and killing cats? Which forces all three clans to band together and banish their sick to an entirely different territory? If he hadn't had to suffer through both the disease and the aftermath himself, he would almost call everyone else delusional. As if there was room for the tom to talk -

Ha. Talk. Something he could no longer do because of this... thing. No one was quite sure what had happened to make his voice disappear, but he could find comfort in knowing he wasn't the only cat to have something taken from him, even if his lingered longer than that Moorclan queen's. Not much comfort in struggling to learn how to hunt in an entirely new territory that made his pelt crawl. Gorgeclan may not have been hostile in the last seasons but it was still their cats who had murdered his family. Being beneath their trees instead of his side of the border put him on edge.

And being basically the only warrior with the current strength to provide prey for the rest of the quarantined cats meant he slept little. Too many complaints about the amount of fish that was offered meant Frostwhisper had to stretch his claws and attempt hunting down the birds, squirrels, and mice the others had an easier time swallowing. The large tom often spent entire days and well into the night to keep the fresh kill pile stocked, and now was the first time he was returning to camp for the day.

As such, he found himself confronted by two new, unfamiliar scents. His pace picked up anxiously at the thought of the weak and undefended cats left behind in Gorgeclan's camp, though it seemed his worries were unfounded. He saw the vaguely familiar pelt of Moorclan's medicine cat with who could only be his apprentice. The fish he held sagged as his jaw relaxed and his pace slowed. Seeing the medicine cat at Falconcry's nest, he moved to his clanmates side and dropped his prize at her paws. Frostwhisper tried to catch Minnowswarm's gaze and gauge how she felt today. His knowledge on herbs was next to nothing, but he was at least able to tell what would remove any overwhelming pain. Finding that she was alright for the moment, he touched his tail to her shoulder and turned to see if any had died during his time away from camp.
