[attr="class","bandit2"] For some reason, he'd been assigned to that little scrap of fur that had chased him around camp for a moon. Whatever Fangstar had been thinking - if she was at all when she'd made the decision - Spiderstrike found himself grumbling along in response. As was required of him, he touched his nose to the bouncing little bengal and fought the look of disgust that came with it. Now, however, as he stalked through camp and sat himself a few fox-lengths outside of the entrance, his scowling maw was plain to see. He'd agreed - begrudgingly - to train the whining apprentice the day prior when she'd pleaded quite loudly outside the warrior's den. One of the senior warriors gave him a stern look and he huffed in defeat.

Spiderstrike was no mentor. He was lazy and careless and preferred to keep to himself. He liked being left alone - so much so that he often spent his entire day outside of camp and only bothered to return under the cover of shadows to sooth his brother's fears of being completely alone - not that he'd admit that to anyone. Spiderstrike didn't want anyone. He didn't need anyone. Not his parents, not Crowstare, and certainly not Littlepaw.

The sound of soft, hurried steps alerted him to the apprentice. He didn't look down at the she-cat as she approached and instead rose to his paws almost instantly. No words escaped his lips as he twitched the tip of his tail, signalling she should follow and he started into the forest. Once they were far enough away from camp, he glanced toward her and stifled a sigh. How he hated this little she-cat for interrupting his quiet life. "We are going to view the territory today, you'll only be allowed to ask questions at certain points through-out our training, and I will tell you when they are, understood?" His voice was gruff as he spoke, gaze sharp on the small she-cat beside him. He wasn't about to spend the whole day answering her never-ending questions, he'd be sure of that.had spent many an afternoon lazing about in the sun. Even in leaf-fall, when the cold ground made many shiver, the large black brute found himself sprawled among a patch of warm, golden sun.

littlepaw

she was absolutely, positively, late. she had awoken a little later than she should have, her internal clock glaring at her as she swung her head up and realized that it was past the time she was supposed to meet him. paws moving swiftly, the light grey she-cat rushed forward, her paws carrying her as fast as they could. she was petite, but her hurried steps alerted him. she came to a halt as he stood there, with no sound escaping him he signaled for her to follow. she smiled brightly, amber-brown eyes flickering over his darker pelt with an eager expression.

"good afternoon grouchy bug!" she meowed happily, listening as her mentor rattled on about how their training would proceed and as she sighed at his voice. she quicken her pace to match his almost, her eyes glancing up to him for guidance. with a soft smirk, she opened her jaws and meowed happily; "are you sure it is smart i don't ask questions all the time? what if i'm not understanding you? what if something doesn't make sense? like your training method?" she meowed with a giggle, winking up at her mentor as she padded faster ahead of him.

"what will you, oh grouchy bug, be teaching me?"

[attr="class","bandit2"] As was common for the pair, the solid black tom found himself scowling at the little she-cat before him. It seemed that - as per usual - he could not accept her to follow instruction. “Are you daft or just stupid?” He snapped, looking down at the tiny bengal she-cat before him. He lacked patience - something that shouldn’t have surprised anyone, least of all her. Coldly, his yellow eyes scanned over her, debating how hard it would be to get this annoying apprentice off his paws. He wanted nothing more than to shoo her away toward a more willing cat who would mentor her the way she needed. Spiderstrike was not a mentor - he was hardly fit to be a warrior, if he was honest. He skimped on sparring sessions and patrols and always did the bare minimum to keep himself in good graces with the clan. He wasn’t extraordinary - he wouldn’t even have called himself above average.

Clearing his throat, he swiftly turned his piercing gaze away from the apprentice and took a deep breath. It would do him no good to insult the tiny she-cat, so instead, he’d have to find a way to make do. “I’m certain.” He said finally, shooing her forward with his tail impatiently before following along behind her. “This is the lush forest, named for the dense trees and the way the leaves cover the canopy in new-leaf and green-leaf. There are a lot of birds here, but you can also find mice, squirrels, rabbits, and voles. This is the ground that we rely on most for feeding our clan because even in leaf-bare, the prey runs strong through this area. You just need to know where to look.

He lifted his gaze upward toward the sky, scanning the clouds above as they twisted, threatening snow and a storm. Still, he pressed on, glancing only once over his shoulder to make sure she was following him before slowing to a stop in the middle of the forest.

Once they’d stopped, he instructed her to close her eyes and smell and listen to the forest around her. “What do you hear? What do you smell?” He asked, his yellow gaze lingering on her for a moment longer than before, before sliding past her into the forest beyond.
