Somehow it was already high noon. The days went by much too quickly now, and Skywhisper just realized he been attending to the kits all day. They were a joy, really, but also the most troublesome and needy patients. He ducked out of the nursery into the bright light, his eyes squinting. [break][break]

His eye caught a familiar brown tabby pelt. Ah. His mind flickered back to the day the little kit was brought into his den. It was one of the many times the stoic and seemingly emotionless Skywhisper had feared losing a cat. Who knew where the kit came from? But Skywhisper never cared. A kit was always innocent and he would never hesitate to treat it. It had been a horrible first moon. Riddled with fever and weak from exhaustion, Skywhisper often wondered what cruelty the kit had been subjected to.[break][break]

But it mattered not now. [break][break]

Robinflight was grown up, and Skywhisper could not be more quietly proud of the kits he had brought up here, wherever they came from. Today he could not help but crack a small smile. Despite his temporary annoyance with the loud squeaks in the nursery, StarClan always seemed to remind him why he did this job. He picked up a small mouse from the fresh-kill pile, and then glanced at Robinflight. The pile seemed to be overflowing with options. He hoped that the warriors were not working too hard and forgetting to eat. The Clan was finally at peace, after all.[break][break]

"You eaten yet?" he meowed quietly as he approached Robinflight. He had not spoken to her for a while. Since those days, Skywhisper thought she seemed to be growing strong and he had not seen her back in the medicine cat's den for a long time. Then again, Skywhisper tried not to be one of those naggy medicine cats. The warriors were really busy and snappy at times.[break][break][break]

"Running is a victory."
Dawn patrol was the worst! Having to get up early and spend the pre-day darkness marking borders and possibly chasing out threats, being tired because even though there's technically the rest of the day you can't stay awake enough to enjoy it -

Listen. Robinflight just hated getting up before the sun. Not that she'd ever say that out loud. Most everyone did and literally everyone had to do a dawn patrol anyway so there's no getting out of it and no use in complaining to anyone. At least, that was her viewpoint. Honeyheart had had much the same attitude, having been a warrior and doing the patrols longer than her.

Still sucks. And nothing could keep her from complaining in her own thoughts.

Taking what time she had for herself after the patrol, Robinflight went on another run. This one was farther away from the stumps and any other potential border, trying to avoid another confrontation like the last one. It wasn't until sun-high that she returned to the camp and blinked as she was immediately approached by Skywhisper. Her mood brightened. Skywhisper was always a nice cat to talk to, despite what others may say about his involvement in Moorclan's pacifistic take during Bonestar's rule, and he had been the one to keep her safe and alive her first moon here.

"Not yet!" came her happily chirped reply, using her tail to gesture for him to follow as she picked her own small bird from the prey pile. "Wanna eat together? We could catch up!" she threw over her shoulder. Her head nodded towards her usual spot in a patch of sunlight on top of a tree root.

The usually calm and stoic medicine cat could not help but give a little chuckle and a small shake of his head. Despite Robinflight's humble beginnings, the she-cat had shaped up to quite the ball of energy. He was generally a quiet cat that would not socialize in large groups, but perhaps Robinflight alone would be okay. After all, he was curious what she had been up to since her apprentice days. He had been too busy with Spore cases and his own life to check up on every cat in the Clan. [break][break]

It seemed the she already had a pleasant spot in mind, where the sunlight just barely hit the treeroots, creating a cool but sunny spot. Cats would normally be lucky to claim such a place for a meal, but right now it was high noon, and most of the Clan was out of the camp. That being said, he realized it was a little surprising Robinflight did not have more hunting or training to attend to. [break][break]

"I don't mean to interrupt you," he purred steadily, "How have you been?" [break][break]

He sat down and took a bite out of the mouse, secretly hoping that she was idle and would keep him company for a little. He was not exactly the cat for conversation, and he scoured his mind for any interesting topic. He could voice his worries, but feared causing unrest in the Clan. His new apprentice, the Spore, and his death of his sister all lay heavily on his mind. However, Skywhisper had not spoken of any of those things.[break][break]

Instead, he lifted his head from his fresh-kill and gave Robinflight an inviting smile.

"Running is a victory."
Robinflight settled to eat facing Skywhisper as much as possible. She took a few bites before responding. "Same as usual," she said. "I had dawn patrol this morning so. That was." Her face scrunched up as she thought of a word before deciding on a sarcastic, "Fun." Her voice made it abundantly clear that it was anything but, though she didn't elaborate before launching into a play-by-play of the last few days, where she had hunted for the clan and did another patrol, this one a sun-high one along the non-clan borders.

"Now I have the rest of today and possibly tomorrow all to myself to do whatever I want!" The molly wriggled in place happily and took a couple more bites of her prey, forgotten as it was in her excitement to catch up with Skywhisper. "I might go for a run along the Stumps border." Suddenly, her mood shifted, becoming more serious. "And that disease, the one you told me about? The Spore or something? Has it shown up again or do you think it's going to be one-time-only?"

Perhaps a bit unkind considering the previous patient had been Skywhisper's sister but. Well. Robinflight needed to know what he thought. If it was something that she had to look out for - if it was something that she could look out for. So much of what the medicine cats did was beyond her knowledge but she did try to help out when she could, since she was almost always out on the territory and could give them reports after patrol.

Skywhisper could not help but laugh along as Robinflight spewed out her last few days. The new warrior seemed to be enjoying her freedom now that she was no longer an apprentice. He did not have too good an understanding of how patrols worked. He was a medicine cat, and had always been one. Scarcely ever was he needed on dawn patrol or hunting outings. But alas, Robinflight made these small things seem like quite an adventure. I should bother the young cats of the Clan more often, he thought to himself. It was almost like a break from his duties. [break][break]

"If you're taking a run, mind if I go with you?" [break][break]

The Stumps border was an area that held some precious herbs. However, Skywhisper hardly ever wandered there alone. As a medicine cat, he was significantly weaker than warriors from other Clans and feared confrontation. He would love a chance for a walk and some comfort in another cat's presence. He had been content just listening, as he always does. However, when the conversation topic turned to him, Skywhisper grew visibly more tired. The topic was not an easy one, either. The Spore's strange and ethereal strikes were enough of a horror to keep him up at night.[break][break]

"I'm not sure," he replied softly and simply. "Tallstep as well before he passed." [break][break]

There was a long pause. Skywhisper did not want to unload his troubles onto the young cat. Cats fell ill to this disease, and either mysteriously recovered or mysteriously died a violent death. It was unlike anything he had seen before, and despite his overuse of the usual herbs, nothing helped.[break][break]

"There will be a Gathering soon," he meowed steadily. "I might ask the other medicine cats if this has occurred in their Clans." Skywhisper knew their relations with other Clans were currently slightly strained, but surely sharing knowledge could not hurt? He shook himself a little and turned his eyes back to Robinflight. There was no need for more of an explanation. In fact, he did not even have one yet. [break][break]

"Running is a victory."
Her ears flicked back in uncertainty as Tallstep's death was brought up again. Mousebrain, she scolded herself, you forgot that there were two! Robinflight didn't dare speak as Skywhisper seemed to gather himself before continuing on.

His mention of the coming Gathering had her ducking her head to occupy herself with her meal. Right. The Gathering was close. The thing she still had yet to go to. Although in all fairness she hadn't ever wanted to go to one. There were too many possibilities of some cat recognizing her from when she was a kit and ruining everything she had here. It wasn't exactly something she could bring herself to look forward to, and so she found herself isolated with relationships only within Moorclan. Not that there was anything wrong with that! It was just... Hearing how casually Skywhisper spoke of the other medicine cats, and the implication that they would be honest and nice to him... She kinda, sorta, maybe wanted that? But Spiritstar had already made his decision and she hadn't spoken up in time so she was set to guard the camp again.

Robinflight threw her thoughts toward his offer of joining her at the Stumps and latched onto that. "Did you want to go after we eat?" she asked abruptly, staring at her now-gone meal. "To the Stumps, I mean, are you up for going after we're - you're done eating? Maybe bring Orchidpaw too if you want to some medicine cat things?" Ah, babbling. Robinflight hoped it covered her nerves well enough.

Skywhisper flicked his ears in amusement. Certainly this she-cat was full of energy. It was unsurprising that she had overlooked Tallstep's death. In fact, Skywhisper was glad of it. He hoped that the Clan was mostly shielded from the knowledge of such a mysterious and grotesque disease, at least until he himself had figured out a cure.[break][break]

"Of course, let's go through the Lavender Fields toward the Stumps?" Skywhisper purred as he finished up the last bits of his meal. He had learned from her early days that Robinflight loved the scent of lavender. Perhaps that was still true now? He stood up and shook the moss out of his pelt. A walk would be nice. [break][break]

"You know... do you have suggestions for training an apprentice?"
Skywhisper asked at the mention of Orchidpaw. He had indeed sent her out to collect herbs today, not because the stocks were low but mainly because he needed to think about how to mentor. He was not used to dealing with another cat in his den, much less such an upbeat and eager one. Perhaps Robinflight would have tips, considering she was now a warrior and had been an apprentice. "Running is a victory."
Robinflight wiggled in excitement at the easy agreement to join her in the run, and she quivered with excitement at the thought of going through the Fields. She stood seconds after Skywhisper and gave herself a quick shake, knocking off any little moss clinging to her. The next question gave her pause before Robinflight bent down to pick up the unwanted parts of her meal to bury it away from camp.

It wasn't good to do so close to the camp, in case any predators were drawn in. There was no way she'd even slightly risk letting Cherrybloom get hurt if she could help it.

"I don't really know," she said honestly. "Plus I'm pretty sure my warrior's training won't help with your medicine cat apprentice training. Although..." A shallow hole was dug as she gathered her thoughts, big enough for both meals' leftovers. "I think just listening? And watching? Figure out how she learns best, whether that's direct training or more loose standards." That was something Honeyheart had done with her - learned when she needed to let her energy out and how to use it in a way that also taught her. Robinflight gave a helpless shrug. "Trial and error. The only way you can really mess up is by not doing anything or acting like a jerk." That last little comment escaped in a giggle, because she honestly couldn't see Skywhisper being a cat that could be that bad for long enough to chase someone away.

Skywhisper gave a small sigh. The thought of training Orchidpaw gave him jitters. He was a cat who stood strongly by his morals, and feared that Orchidpaw's fiery attitude would eventually butt heads with his beliefs. He feared she would cause panic should she learn too much. He feared that she would use her knowledge as a medicine cat in the wrong way. All of these things, of course, were part of his responsibility as a mentor to avoid. [break][break]

He glanced at Robinflight. She certainly made it sound easy. "The Clan will not have another medicine cat if I mess up," he said glumly. It had been a hard pick for him, and he would stick with it. But it certainly was not easy.[break][break]

Skywhisper shook himself. What was he doing? He had promised himself he would have a carefree day today. And no point in putting his worries onto Robinflight! [break][break]

"Anyway, a run would be real nice," he gave a small laugh. "Are you still as fast as you used to be?" [break][break]

With that light-hearted challenge, Skywhisper dashed out of the camp toward the Stumps.
